The scores were low at Shady Hollow Country Club in Massillon, as 46 teams across eight flights competed in the Northern Ohio Golf Association’s Flighted 2-Player Scramble on Wednesday, August 19th.
Brian Huntley and Tom Laubacher shot the lowest round of the day, a scorching 13-under par score of 59 to win the Senior A Flight by an eye-popping FIVE shots. Five. (Winning by one shot in a scramble is a lot.)
John Karamas and Adam Jones put together next best score on the day with a 61, winning the A Flight by a single shot over Bobby Spino and Eric Vought. (Spino and Vought lessened their pain by picking up the cash from three skins.)
Brant Harbert and Ray Freed won the B Flight by two shots with a solid 8-under par 64.
The C Flight and the Senior B Flight each finished with a log-jam three-way tie for first place.
The D Flight was one of the most competitive flights, going low, too: Fred Villao and Jeffrey Suchora finished at 7-under par 65 to win, with Jeff Mirelli and Dante D’Andrea one shot back and Creighton Gerber and Mark Melvin two.
E Flight winners Timothy Blondheim and Rick Bock shot a strong 4-under par 68 to win by three — and won six skins in the process.
And the Senior C Flight was taken by Paul Appleby and Tim Truby at 71.
Next up in the NOGA Flighted Series is the 2020 Patriots Cup at Firestone Country Club’s North Course, slated for Labor Day Monday, September 7th.
