Bodziony, Lewis and Wong are Match Play Champions
The 2019 Jim Dawson Match Play Championship was conducted this week at Punderson State Park Golf Course in Newbury, with some great play on display.
In the Boys 16-19, Antonio Bodziony was unstoppable. In the semi-final match, Antonio beat Tyler Ankrom 4 & 2 and Tyler is a talented player that played well. In the finals, Antonio played even better to win the championship over Josh Pethel 6 & 5. In Josh’s semi-final match he beat Joey Kubic 6 & 4.
In the Boys 14-15, Evan Lewis won the championship over Robert Kimmel by a 2 up margin. Evan played exceptional in the finals. It looked like his formula was “hit the fairway, hit the green” because that what he did. He played within himself and kept the pressure on Robert most the way. In the semi-final match, Evan had a tough go against Domenic Pilla, but squeezed out a 1 up victory. Robert won 5 & 4 in his semi-final match over Christopher Bridge.
In the Girls 19 & Under, Ella Wong won the last hole of the match to win 2 up over Lauren Bangasser. Ella’s ball-striking was precise today and it set her up to win many holes without having to grind on and around the greens. Ella won her semi-final match over Sophia Ripepi 7 & 6 and Lauren won her semi-final match over Tyler Gilba 4 & 3.
Congratulations to all the Champions. Champions earn an automatic bid to be on the 2020 Joe Haase Cup team.
