It felt like Fall on Monday at the Congress Lake Club for the 102nd annual NOGA Interclub Team Championship. Sixteen teams of four battled through windy and colder-than-normal August conditions for a chance to become one of the clubs with their name engraved on the Interclub trophy.
One team on Monday stood out from the rest, the team from Tippecanoe Country Club. The players from the club in Canfield went out as one of the first teams of the day and claimed a five-stroke victory. Three of their players finished in an individual tie for first place at even par 71, and all four team members finished within the top 15. The team of Brandon Pluchinsky, Joey Cilone, John Doughton, and Griffin Todd claimed the 11th overall Interclub Championship for Tippecanoe, and the first for the club since 2011.
At the end of play yesterday, NOGA’s Golf Genius leaderboard showed Trey Walker from the Inverness Club as the individual medalist at 1-under par 70. However, Trey contacted NOGA later that evening when he saw the scoreboard showed a 4 on the par-4 12th hole when he made a 5. So, NOGA was forced to disqualify him due to a wrongly signed scorecard. The ruling was resolved on Tuesday morning by the NOGA Rules Committee, thus the delay in posting this story.
With Walker’s disqualification, there was a log jam at the top of the final Individual leaderboard, with seven players tied at even par. Along with the three champions from Tippecanoe, Kyle Buzaki of Fox Den Golf Course, Matt Paterini of Red Tail Golf Club, Shaun Kloetzer of NOGA Club East/West, and Cole Smith of Sand Ridge Golf Club shared the top spots. Of the seven tied at the top, Kloetzer led the way with five total birdies on his card.
