Dublin’s Blake Solomon has taken the lead after the second round of the 2022 Northeast Ohio Amateur Championship.
Solomon, a member of the Dayton Flyers men’s golf team, birdied three holes on the back side at Windmill Lakes, including a dart at the last to finish again at 1-under par 69 for a two day total of 2-under par 138.
“I got off to a slow start,” Solomon said. “I wasn’t hitting many greens or fairways. Then I hit a good one on 11, drove the green, tapped in a two-putt for birdie. Then I just kept it going from there.”

First round leader Aaron Crewse of Akron overcame a double bogey at the par-4 10th hole to post a second round score of 2-over par 72, and now sits in second place in the Championship while still leading the Mid-Amateur Division at a 1-under par 139 total.
“Actually, I was surprised about today, only because yesterday was the first good round I’ve played all year,” said Crewse. “Looking back on it, I’ll take 72. I hit maybe three or four fairways, so I saw a lot of the golf course.”
Bryan Kordupel of Youngstown and Cade Kreps from Boardman sit T3 in the Championship Division at even par 140.
Medina’s Andrew Grayson shot the round of the tournament thus far with a front nine 30 that lead to a Sunday 66. Grayson now sits in second place in the Mid-Am Division and T5 in the Championship Division.

On the Senior side, Stow’s David Trier shot a second round 72 to jump into the lead at a 6-over par 146 total.
Four players will chase him on Monday from one shot back: Kurt Peterson from Bolivar, first-round co-leader Marc Fried of Solon, Mark Guadagni of Hudson, and Lou Boarman of Mogadore.
Northeast Ohio Women’s Amateur
The second playing of the Northeast Ohio Women’s Amateur Championship began on Sunday for 36 holes at Windmill Lakes, and the leaders in both divisions are up by three shots after round one.

Margaret Williams of Wooster posted a 4-over par 74 to lead the Championship Division by three over Emily Holzopfel from Rayland.
“I played pretty good today,” said Williams. “I haven’t really prepared that much coming into today, so I was pretty happy with the results. Ready to get out there tomorrow and hopefully shoot a better score.”
![Shirley Vaughn 2022 Women's Northeast Ohio Am](https://northernohio.golf/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/ShirleyVaughn_2022WNEOA-RD1_1080x627.jpg)
Canton’s Shirley Vaughn leads the Women’s Senior Division at 75 by three over Gail Hackett, also from Canton.
Vaughn is the sister of Senior Division leader David Trier.
“The course was in great condition,” said Vaughn. “I hit some fairways today. I focused on hitting the center of the greens and making short putts. The greens are very challenging.”
