Akron’s Cade Breitenstine followed his even par 70 first round with a 3-under par 67 on Sunday to take a big lead after two rounds in the 2020 Northeast Ohio Amateur Championship at Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna.
Breitenstine’s Sunday score was three shots better than any other player in the field, and he now leads Tyler Goecke of Xenia by a sizable five shots with 18 holes left to play.
Tied for third place another shot behind are Cole Corder of Beavercreek, first round lead Max Watson of Ashland, and defending champion Jack Herceg of Dublin.
In the Mid-Am Division, defending champion Chris Okeson of Lyndhurst shares the top spot after two rounds with four-time Cleveland Amateur champ Brad Steven of Concord. Both players sit at 6-over par total, two clear of Michael Kelley of Westerville.
In the Senior Division, Solon’s Monty Guest shot a solid 1-under par 69 on Sunday to finish at even par for two days and take a big lead after 36 holes. First round leader Brian Sparrow still holds down a share of the second position with Stow’s Mark Borlin, who shot a tidy even par 70 on Sunday. But both players are now seven shots off the pace of Guest.
Monday’s final round will begin at 8 a.m. at Windmill Lakes Golf Club. The Senior Division players will tee off first, followed by Mid-Am and Championship division players set out by score.
