BARRINGTON’S SIERAK HAS ONE-SHOT LEAD IN NOPGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Barrington Golf Club Head Golf Professional Mark Sierak was one of eight players to shoot par or better on Tuesday and will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the 2020 Northern Ohio PGA Professional Championship at Westbrook Country Club.
Sierak shot a second-round 2-under 70 for a two-day total of 139 and a one-shot lead over Windmill Golf Center Teaching Professional Randy Dietz in the event conducted by the Northern Ohio Section of the Professional Golfers Association of America.
Dietz, the reigning NOPGA Player of the Year, shot a one-under 71 after an opening 69.
The top five finishers will earn a paycheck and spot in the 54th Annual PGA Professional Championship to be held April 25-28 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
The field of 58 was trimmed to the low 27 players for Wednesday’s final 18 holes.
Portage Country Club Assistant Golf Professional Adam Lewicki was one of five players to break par-72 and is tied for third place with Jim Troy (Homna Golf Sales Representative), both at 3-under 141 and two shots behind.
Troy, the runnerup in this event last year, had the day’s best round of 3-under 69.
Those making the cut include 5-time champion Rob Moss (Pepper Pike), 3-time champions Gary Robison (Canton Brookside) and Tom Atchison (Salem Golf Club), two-time champion Gary Trivisonno (PGA Life Member) and Defending Champion Mike Stone (Belmont Country Club).
Rainstorms suspended play twice during the day, amounting to about a one-hour delay.
