RD1 RESULTS: 2021 Chippewa Championship

A perfect summer day and a perfectly set up golf course made for a perfect match in Round 1 of the 2021 Chippewa Championship.

The hole locations at Doylestown’s Chippewa Golf Club can be placed to make the golf course near impossible to score. But on this particular Saturday, the balance was struck right on the line: significantly challenging without being over the top.

And as usual, the back nine played much more difficult than the front side.

Amherst’s Brian Smith and Canton’s Dave Oates are tied for the lead after Saturday’s play, both shooting a solid 3-under par 68. Defending champion Ryan Culbertson is one shot back after a 69.

Two skins were won on the day: an eagle-3 on the par-5 10th by Matt Shoup and a birdie-3 on the 522-yard extended par-4 18th hole by Yanni Vellios. Each skin was worth a whopping $1,212.50.
