On Monday, July 15th, the Northern Ohio Golf Association and the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association conducted the first round of the Ohio Junior Girls Championship at Marion Country Club in Marion, Ohio. Seventy girls ages 11-18 competed in today’s event to earn placement in tomorrow’s final round.
Alexa Prettyman and Cammy Reed earned the top-finishing spots after round one, shooting 70 (-2). Prettyman started her round at -1 through the first nine holes, tallying a bogey on the par-4 3rd and birdies on the holes 4 and 7. Prettyman fired off three straight birdies on the back nine on 10, 11, and 12. The only blemish on the back nine came on the par four 14th, where Prettyman recorded a double-bogey.
Reed had a consistent round, playing par golf for most of her round and taking advantage when possible. Reed had one birdie on the front, which came in hole 7. On the back, her lone bogey came on hole 11, but she recovered sufficiently, shooting birdies on 14 and 17.
The field is very competitive at the top and is sure to leave plenty of opportunity for movement when day two action begins tomorrow.
