Belmont Country Club Director of Instruction Mike Stone fired a two-under par 70 in the first round of the Northern Ohio PGA Professional Championship at Tippecanoe Country Club. Stone leads Jim Troy (The Golf Dome) and Steve Parker (Portage Country Club), both of whom fired 71 (-1) on the Donald Ross-designed course.
Round 2 begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The top 30 players and ties after Tuesday’s second round will advance to the final round of the championship on Wednesday, August 14th.
The Northern Ohio PGA Professional Championship will qualify four players and four alternates for the 57th PGA Professional National Championship, which will be held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie (FL) from April 27 to 30, 2024.
In the Women’s Section Championship, defending champion Emily Heikkila (Trumbull Country Club) leads by one stroke after firing 79 (+7). In a tie for second sits Averi Hanna (The Country Club), Danielle Roshong (Tannenhauf Golf Club), and Mary Suitca (Tannenhauf Golf Club) who shot 80 (+8). The final round for that event begins at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
