A chilly Round 1 is in the books from Columbus for the 2018 OHSAA Division I State Golf Championships for both Boys and Girls teams and individuals.
After Friday’s play, the best any NEOH team sits is in fifth place — but a handful of local players are doing well individually.
BOYS DIVISION I: OSU SCARLET
Individually, last year’s D1 state champ Maxwell Moldovan from Green (left) is back in the title hunt again, posting a 1-over par 73 at OSU Scarlet to sit one shot behind leader Oscar Zimmerman from Cincy’s St. Xavier.
Also in the top-10 individually is Christian Tomak from Massilon Jackson, at T9 after a 6-over par 78.
As a team, Massillon Jackson finished the first round at Scarlet in fifth place, shooting 45-over par 333, which is 17 shots behind leaders Dublin Jerome.
Akron’s Archbishop Hoban is one shot behind Jackson at 334, while St. Ignatius sits in 8th place with a 338 and Walsh Jesuit is 10th at 352.
