PREVIEW: 2024 Northern Ohio PGA

Northern Ohio PGAIt’s April. That means it’s golf season, and the Northern Ohio Section of the Professional Golfers Association of America begins its 78th season next Monday.

Nearly 100 events are scheduled, from stroke play tournaments for Section professionals, to open competitions for Section professionals and qualified amateurs, to competitions for junior golfers, to the Section Foundation charitable programs.

The Northern Ohio PGA, with approximately 475 professionals and associates, will begin its season with the Pro-Pro Premier, a 2-person team event, on Monday and Tuesday, April 15-16, at Firestone Country Club in Akron.

The Section continues to provide high quality golf and to aid several charitable causes.

With the addition of the Ohio Junior Cup Matches, the Section will now conduct what it considers 13 ‘major’ events, highlighted by the 103rd Ohio Open during the first week of July at Westfield Country Club, the 39th Ohio Senior Open at Firestone Country Club just after Memorial Day and several other significant tournaments such as The NOPGA Section Professional Championship, the Ohio Cup Matches, the Mitchell-Haskell Tour Championship and the Denny Shute Match Play Championship.

The professionals will compete weekly from now until mid-October with a series of stroke-play events, usually on Mondays. The Section continues to provide high quality golf and to aid several charitable causes.

The 49th Junior PGA Section Championship, June 24-25, Alliance Country Club.

The 103rd Pyramid Treating Ohio Open, July 1-3, North & South Courses, Westfield Country Club.

The 41st Kenny Novak/NOPGA Junior Tour Championship, July 30-31, Club Walden, Aurora.

The 4th Ladies Section Championship, August 12-13, Tippecanoe Country Club, Canfield.

The 73rd NOPGA Professional Championship, August 12-14, Tippecanoe Country Club, Canfield.

The 39th NOPGA Senior Professional Championship, August 19-20, Westbrook Country Club, Mansfield.

The 54th Assistant’s Championship, September 3, Shady Hollow Country Club, Massillon.

The 94th Habitec Toledo Open, September 9-10, Highland Meadows Country Club, Sylvania.

The 22nd Mitchell-Haskell Tour Championship, September 23-24, The Country Club, Pepper Pike.

The 28th Ohio Cup Matches, October 2-3, Westbrook Country Club, Mansfield. NOPGA vs. SOPGA

The 49th Denny Shute Match Play Championship, October 7-9, Portage Country Club, Akron.

The 2nd Junior Ohio Cup Matches, October 18-20, hosted by Southern Ohio PGA.

SCHEDULE NOTES

The NOPGA Section also will conduct three events for its foundation: 103rd Ohio Open Pro-Am on June 30th at Westfield Country Club; Kenny Novak Scholarship Day on July 29th at Club Walden; and the Smucker’s Birdies & Charity event at Portage Country Club on September 16.
