The Independence Lady Blue Devils golfers were the CVC conference champions in 2015. The team finished second in the Division II Sectional at Punderson last year with a score of 349. They were one spot off of qualifying for state as they came in fourth at Division II District at Tam O’Shanter. The three teams that finished ahead of them, Cortland Lakeview (state champs), Lutheran West (runner-up) and Columbiana (sixth) graduated 11 of the 12 girls that placed at districts.
The Lady Blue Devils return 3 of 5 girls from last years district team, including number one Sophia Trombetta, number two Lyndsay Blum, and number four Madeline Mindzora. Also returning is a much-improved Maddie Harper, last year’s number six player.

4. Madeline Mindzora, Jr. (2015 avg. 108) (through 5 tournaments 2016 avg. 100)
5. Ginger Crist, So. (through 5 tournaments 2016 avg. 104)
6. Christina Tommer, So. (was out and will begin golf this week)
Sophia Trombetta is one of the premier golfers in northeast Ohio. Last year, she won the Sectional and District Division II crowns and finished 12th in Ohio. She had an amazing summer which was recently capped off by qualifying for the Jr. PGA Championship at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rhode Island. She made the final cut by firing rounds of 71, 77, 77. She competed in several highly respected tournaments around the country taking several top 10 finishes. And Sophia fired a tournament record 71 at the par 72 St. Denis CC in the recent Mentor Invitational.
Lyndsay Blum most recently won the Southwest Junior Tour player of the year honor. She and Sophia form a very solid one two combination for the Lady Devils.
Maddie Harper and Madeline Mindzora are going to be counted on to score for the team this year. They both had productive summers in the SWGT.
Ginger Crist and Christina Tommer give the Lady Devils real depth. Both have are capable of shooting in the 90’s and they also participated in the SWGT.
The team recently won the CVC preseason and placed second at the Jackson Invitational at Tam O’ Shanter firing a 371 without Sophia in the line-up. Qualifying for the Division II state championship is the goal of the 2016 Lady Devil’s Golf team.
