Giving back to the community has been as much a part of the Professional Golfers Association as pars, birdies, and bogeys.
The Northern Ohio Section of the PGA will continue that tradition on Thursday (August 8) when it conducts its PGA HOPE Cup at Glenmoor Country Club.
PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is a national program that introduces golf to veterans with disabilities, to help enhance their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being.
The program is funded by PGA REACH — the charitable foundation of the PGA of America — and supplemented by the NOPGA Section Foundation, making the event free to all participants.
The event at Glenmoor will be a day of celebration for Northern Ohio Veterans who are graduates of the PGA HOPE program, a six-to-eight-week curriculum conducted by NOPGA members, associates, and LPGA members trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency.
On Thursday, beginning at 9:15 a.m. with a shotgun start, 15 teams consisting of five players, including one NOPGA professional, will play a nine-hole scramble. Half the teams will play the front nine, the other half on the back nine. The teams with the lowest scores on each nine will advance to a shootout on the 18th hole.
