NOGA Updates Its POY Points Awards for 2021

Great Lakes Auto NOGA Player of the Year

Great Lakes Auto Scratch Series players looking to win the Northern Ohio Golf Association Player of the Year title have an updated blueprint on what is required in 2021.

The Tournament Advisory Committee has revised the number of points awarded to various events played during the season, which starts Thursday with the Scratch Series Four-Ball + MPQ at Elyria Country Club.

Points will be awarded in 2021 not only for NOGA Scratch Series events and the season-long Match Play, but also for the Northeast Ohio Am, the Ohio Open, the Ohio Amateur, and the USGA’s Open and Amateur qualifiers and championships.

Points are awarded by division for Championship and Senior POY lists, plus a separate Women’s POY list with different point awards. Players must compete in a minimum of three (3) NOGA Scratch Series tournaments to be eligible for the Player of the Year title.

An overview of the points changes:

– the Northeast Ohio Am now awards the most points of any event on the 2021 schedule, with 350 to the winner;

– the points awarded for winning the Great Lakes Auto NOGA Tour Championship, the Ohio Amateur and Ohio Open are now equal, with 262.5 awarded for first place;

– players earn points for the USGA’s U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur qualifying, plus additional points based on performance at the Championships proper;

– on the Senior POY side, points are awarded for winning the Ohio Senior Amateur, Ohio Senior Open, and for senior USGA events like the U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Senior Am;

– the points awarded for season-long Match Play wins have been increased for both individual and team matches;

– the points awarded at the Great Lakes Auto NOGA Tour Championship now have larger gaps between finish positions, to put a little more weight on playing well in the season finale;

– there are no points awarded for any state or national mid-amateur tournaments, as these events exclude players under the age of 25.
