The Northern Ohio Golf Association has determined the start of its 2022 Tournament Schedule, a schedule that includes a significant change to its series of handicap competitions.
The early season host sites are a strong list of private clubs and high-quality courses, including Shady Hollow, Elyria, Barrington, Oberlin, Mayfield, Stone Ridge and Inverness.
NOGA members from all across Northern Ohio – including member clubs located in the Toledo area that were previously part of the Toledo District Golf Association – are welcome to enter any of the tournaments listed on the 2022 schedule.
HANDICAP COMPETITIONS BECOME NET SERIES
Based on the results of end-of-season player surveys, then Tournament Player Committee discussions, and finally full Board approval, the NOGA Handicap Competitions played in 2022 will go from multiple flights within divisions to simple net divisions.
That means all players within each of the four division available in a Handicap Competition – namely the Open, Senior, Super Senior, and Women’s Divisions – will now play at Net Score within those divisions. The player’s Net Score for a hole or the round is the gross score adjusted for the player’s handicap strokes.
There will be no more “flights” within a division, thus larger fields (and bigger skins pots) will be seen within each Net division.
Because of this change, the handicap competitions of 2022 will now be known collectively as the NOGA Net Series.
SEASON-LONG MATCH PLAY CONTINUES
The individual and four-ball team Season-Long Match Play Competitions will continue in 2022 in both the Scratch and Net Series. Qualifying for each of these four match play brackets is offered as a part of the early May NOGA event schedule, with each qualifier run concurrently with a stand-alone NOGA event. These match play qualifiers are indicated on the schedule below.
INTERCLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP TO INVERNESS
The Inverness Club will host the 2022 edition of the Interclub Team Championship in late May. In its current form, this decades-old competition sees four players representing each NOGA member club in a 3-scores-of-4 scratch stroke play competition.
Conducting this long-running event at such a historically competitive site – while adding teams from the Toledo area into the competition for the first time ever – only adds to the story of the event.
