Representing Fowlers Mill Golf Course, Niedzialek out dueled Nick Zsebebics from Punderson in a 3-hole sudden death playoff. Niedzialek and Zsebebics finished 27 holes of regulation play deadlocked at Grandview Golf Course in Middlefield.
Zsebedics played the last 4 holes at 1 under par to tie Niedzialek, but a two”“putt par from the fringe on the 150-yard par three third hole was all Niedzialek needed to win the tournament.
Ron Rositani representing Hemlock Springs finished in third place.
The Tri-County Regional Press Tournament is one of the area’s oldest events for amateurs dating back to 1928 sponsored by the Telegraph Newspaper and coordinated by the late Bob Thompson. The tournament consists of course representatives from Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties. The tournament continues today thanks to the efforts of Jim Evans from Painesville. The Sterling Silver Trophy dating back to 1928 is one of the classic icons in amateur golf in the region.
