The Medalist Tour and player Scott Holmes will meet in Canton Municipal Court this Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. to let a judge decide if Holmes actually shot the winning score in the Freedom Classic at The Quarry Golf Club in Canton on July 3rd of this year, and if he should collect the winner’s share.
Some questions raised by a fellow competitor after the event led Medalist Tour Director Mike Hastings to nullify Holmes’ victory in Canton, and to withhold the winner’s check from the event.
Holmes was paid $220 earlier in the day for a skin he earned; that payment was made to Holmes prior to the player’s claim against him.
Holmes filed a small claims suit in Canton Municipal Court against Mike Hastings and The Medalist Tour LLC on July 27th, seeking payment for the winning prize amount plus other expenses and damages. Holmes total claim is for $1,296. The initial hearing will be held in front of a magistrate, with final approval of the decision to be made by the judge in session 14 days after the hearing.
The unconfirmed story is that another competitor called Hastings after reading the scores online and indicated to him that Holmes’ posted score was not accurate. Based on that conversation, Hastings withheld payment. I couldn’t get a verified story from Hastings on the facts of the accusation (he cited pending litigation as the reason he wouldn’t talk) and don’t know how to contact Holmes, so instead of publishing hearsay I decided to let the story rest until the hearing took place. Both sides of this story should come out in detail in the hearing tomorrow…
I was just wondering what Scott was being accused of that would make Mike not pay him his winners check. I looked back in the archives and didn’t see anything. Does anybody know anything about this?
