A wealthy local CEO who already owns Barrington Golf Club in Aurora has recently purchased Mayfield Country Club in South Euclid and Sand Ridge Country Club in Chardon from the membership.
Monte Ahuja, the CEO of parts maker Transtar Industries Inc in Walton Hills, made the purchase not to make money in the golf business or real estate, but because he “loves the game of golf”.
Ahuja purchased the two properties through Areco Golf LLC, the company he set up in 2011 to manage Barrington. His new golf portfolio additions will both remain as private clubs, and he plans to invest significantly in both properties to attract new members.
The two courses have been run as a single club — named Mayfield Sand Ridge — since the 2006 merger of Mayfield Country Club (built in 1908) with the modern Sand Ridge (built in 1998).
