North Canton’s Dr. Jeff Mallette finished T14 in stroke play qualifying at the USGA’s 2023 United States Senior Amateur Championship at Martis Camp Club in Truckee, CA, and begins match play starting today at 1:30p Eastern.
Mallette, who plays out of Brookside Country Club in Canton, backed up his Saturday 76 with a Sunday 73 for a 149 total, moving him up the leaderboard on a course that has been difficult to score. The medalist, Todd White of Spartanburg SC, finished at even par 144.
Mallette is seeded 21st and will play Tim Peterson of Minneapolis, MN, the 44th seed. Peterson shot rounds of 77-75=152 to finish T38.
Windham’s Rob Schustrich followed his first round 77 with a Sunday 80 and missed a match play playoff by two shots. Concord’s Tom Jerub was DQ’d after Saturday’s round for a scorecard error.

UPDATE 8/28/23 5:30pm EST: Mallette has won his Round of 64 match at the U.S. Senior Am over Tim Peterson of Minneapolis 4&2, and will play 53-seeded Mike Finster of Saint Petersburg FL on Tuesday, August 29th at Martis Camp Club.
UPDATE 8/29/23 4:00pm EST: After some back-and-forth, North Canton’s Jeff Mallette dispatched Round of 32 U.S. Senior Am match play opponent Mike Finster of FL, 3&2. At 4:40pm Eastern, Mallette will begin play against Roger Newsom of Virginia Beach in the Round of 16. Newsome needed 20 holes to best his Round of 32 opponent.
