Solon’s Hawthorne Valley Golf Club will not reopen in 2019.
But owner Fred Rzepka recently told Crain’s Cleveland Business writer Kevin Kleps that the course will be maintained at a minimum level by “three or four workers” to allow the possibility of a purchase of the property as a golf course.
“It’s not going to be played by the public or anyone,” said Rzepka to Crains. “We’re going to maintain it for the purpose of future sales or someone who might want to do something with it.”
Solon mayor Ed Kraus would like to see the course become a park, perhaps part of the Cleveland Metroparks’ South Chagrin Reservation which is less than 5 miles away. “We’ve seen what other communities have done to large tracts. Former golf courses have been converted to beautiful parks with walking trails that the public loves.”
