Columbus Academy won the Girls Division II State Championship title by 17 shots; Siena Maschke of Laurel School in Shaker Heights won the individual title by seven shots.
On Friday, the Columbus Academy girls golf team shot a single-round Division II state tournament record 307 and followed it up with a 313 on a rainy Saturday to win their second-consecutive state championship and tie the Division II overall state record (620) on the Gray Course at The Ohio State University.
Academy freshman Eva Lim shot a 75-75-150, which tied for the second-lowest score overall. Junior Caroline Zeiger shot a 78-76-154 to finish sixth overall. Senior Angela Hu and senior Sydney Fortney both shot 77-81-158 to tie for 12th overall.
Academy’s three state tournament appearances have all come in the last three years and the Viking now have two state titles.
Laurel senior Siena Maschke took home medalist honors with a 70-73-143.
With five seniors who have played in the state tournament each of the last three years, Sugarcreek Garaway was the state runner-up with a 311-326-637, led by Brooklyn Numbers with a 76-79-155 to finish seventh overall. The Pirates have now been in the state tournament 11 times and take home the state runner-up trophy for the second consecutive year.
