FINAL RESULTS: 2023 NOPGA Mitchell-Haskell Tour Championships

Mark Sierak and Mike Stone come from behind to win titles

Mark Sierak rallied from a three-shot deficit and Mike Stone came from two shots back on Tuesday to win titles in the 22nd Mitchell-Haskell Tour Championships at The Country Club.

Sierak, co-owner of Optimus Golf in Solon and former long-time head professional at Barrington Golf Club, shot a final-round 1-under 71 to win the Championship Division with a 36-hole total of 2-under par 142.

Stone, assistant professional at Belmont Country Club in Maumee, won the Senior Division title in a one-hole playoff after finishing regulation play at one-under par 72-71-143.

It was the first victory for both in this event, conducted by the Northern Ohio Section of the Professional Golfers Association, and the final in-house stroke-play tournament of 2023.

Sierak, 45, began the day in third place, three strokes behind first-round leader Michael Balcar, an assistant at Brandywine Country Club.

Stone, 51, trailed Pepper Pike Club head professional and first-round leader Rob Moss by two shots.

The lead in the Championship Division changed hands all day, with Balcar, Sierak, Beechwood Country Club head professional Jaysen Hansen, GolfTEC co-owner Nick Paez, and Willie’s Custom Golf Center teaching professional Blake Sattler owning or sharing a piece throughout the day.

Sierak took sole possession of the lead when he birdied the 540-yard 16th hole and the 385-yard 17th. That came after a crucial par-save on the 414-yard 15th, with a marvelous chip from 45 yards right of the green and a testy left-to-right 6-foot putt.

Stone and Club Walden Director of Golf Mitch Camp (71-72) finished regulation tied at 143, but Stone prevailed with a par on the 355-yard first hole.

Sattler, Paez and Balcar finished in a tie for second and PGA Life Member Tom Waitrovich (73-71) finished third in the Seniors.
