Gary Robison Takes Playoff for Fourth Ohio Senior Open Title
NOPGA member Gary Robison will have his name added to the Ohio Senior Open rock at Firestone Country Club for the fourth time in his career. But it took a couple of extra holes to earn his 2018 title.
Robison made four birdies against four bogeys on Thursday, and shot 69-70 over the two days for a 1-under par total of 139.
First round leader Steve Parker had a rough bogey-double start to his second round, and for awhile it looked like Robison might walk to victory. But Parker bounced back exactly when he needed it, as an eagle on the par-5 17th put him right back into the tournament. The eagle led to a three-stroke swing when Robison missed a six foot putt for par there, leaving the two players tied after 35 holes. Both made pars at the finishing hole, and they headed to a playoff.
Robison earned the 2018 title when Parker made bogey at the second playoff hole, the challenging par-4 18th.
Three players tied for low amateur honors at 145 (+5): 2016 Champion Nick Lambos from Canton; Dan DeVore from Cincinnati; and Roger Tolley from Willard.
Former Firestone Country Club GM Don Padgett II, now at Pinehurst, won the Super Senior Division with a two day total of 71-68=139 (-2). Second place finisher and Super Senior low am was Jeff Sparks from Cincinnati with a score of 74-69=143 (-1).
