The night before Thanksgiving was a bit windy and brisk, but cold temperatures didn’t keep the crowd away from the 2016 Firestone 9 Turkey Shoot in Akron on Wednesday.
Over 100 players attempted to get a ball inside a 6-foot circle to a hole 63 yards away to qualify for the Finals, where all kinds of prizes were up for grabs.
About 40 players were successful in getting through stage 1, although this year there were no hole-in-ones made during qualifying (there were 2 in 2015).
Once the Finals began, it looked like Jim Juersevich (right) sewed up the top prize early. Hitting as one of the first contestants, Juersevich knocked his shot to 24 inches, which was a great result given the challenging weather conditions.
But about two-thirds of the way through the Finals, Jordan Congeriti (left) hit a high floater to 12 inches and the contest was won. Jordan earned a great prize: a foursome at Firestone CC North Course!
(The Conjenti family seems to gear up for the Turkey Shoot; Joe Conjenti was the winner last year when he hit it to 10 inches in the Finals!)
Thanks to Firestone 9 pro Dan Dauk for running yet another great Turkey Shoot event, and a nod to Hacker’s Bar & Grill for the delicious chili, wings and pizza!
