Columbus-area players Dan Martina and Josh Anderson (pictured) traveled to Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Links in Akron on Saturday and played a strong nine holes of scramble and better ball — then put together a huge closing nine that helped them take the overall 27-hole title in the 2014 Turkeyfoot Fall 2-Man Jumble.
The pair shot a 4-under par 32 in the scramble format to tie for second place in that nine holes, a 4-under par 31 in the better ball format to tie for first place there, then a stunning 5-under par 30 in the alternate shot — with a bogey! — to take that nine holes.
Anderson and Martina won the overall title by two shots with final score of 13-under par 93.
Mike Kracker and Dr. Jeff Mallette finished in second place at 11-under par 95, winning the scramble nine holes outright.
Ty Kovach and Allen Freeman finished in third place another shot back at 10-under par 96, three clear of the next best scores.
Two of the nine hole skins pots were won as solo payouts: Mike Armour and David Trier earned $500 for their eagle 2 on the short par-4 fifth hole, and Chris Plute and Rob Schustrich birdied the first par-3 in the alternate shot to earn the only skin on that nine, also good for $500.
A total of 41 2-player teams competed in the event; results from all the paid places below.
