Two Medina county golf facilities, the no-frills 18-hole public Deer Pass Golf Course in Seville and the small old-school private 9-hole Rustic Hills Country Club in Medina, will not open for golf in 2019.
Rustic Hills made its announcement back in January, closing both the course and the restaurant / banquet hall for business. The owners cited the lack of golf membership numbers and the many new hall rental options available in Medina as the reason.
“The owners are actively seeking others with new ideas, insight and vision who are ready to see the Club and its property on to a new, positive chapter in the life of our community,” the club’s website states in a detailed explanation.
Instead of posting a clear announcement to its own website, the management of Deer Pass made the course’s closing announcement exclusively on its Facebook page.
“Sorry to inform everyone Deer Pass will not be opening this Season” was the message posted to the course’s Facebook page on Saturday. The GM then interacts with regulars within the comments section of that post. The name of the GM listed on the Deer Pass website is Donna Pettry.
Calling the listed golf course phone number generates a “number has been disconnected” message.
The announcement came as a surprise to many of Deer Pass’ regular players. The comments generated from that Facebook post showed shock from some, but little surprise from others.
Some comments indicated the property’s new owner closed the course as a last minute decision, while others questioned when refunds on membership down payments made for 2019 would be available.
The Deer Pass website shows no information about closing as of Monday morning.
