Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown is putting a new spin on its 55-year-old Club Championship in 2023, to entice the area’s best amateurs to compete in a brand new event. This August 26th and 27th, Chippewa will partner with The Pines Golf Club in Orrville to launch the Wayne County Amateur Championship, a new two-day, two-course, 36-hole scratch stroke play tournament.
The event will start at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 26th at Chippewa for the first 18 hole round of tee times. Then play will shift to The Pines Golf Club in Orrville on Sunday morning, August 27th, with tee times beginning there at 8am. After play is completed on Sunday, a player’s reception will be held with hors d’euvres, dinner and the presentation of awards.
The entry fee for the tournament is $175. There will also be an optional $50 entry fee to compete in the 36-hole big skins game.
This year’s first place tournament winner will walk away with a cool $1,000 IN CASH! Second and third place prizes will be determined by the total number of entries.
Chippewa and The Pines are excited to bring this new, local, competitive golf event to Wayne County. The tournament will be managed jointly by Chippewa’s Brad Stewart and The Pines’ Jeff Wenger.
“Chippewa has hosted a Club Championship in August every year, an event that my staff and I look forward to,” said Stewart. “But we were looking for a way to open up the field to include more area golfers — and to offer more prize money! — while generating some new excitement. Collaborating with The Pines is the perfect solution.”
