Changes to Chippewa Monday Skins Game for 2010

The Monday Big Skins Game at Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown has grown significantly over the last few seasons. But in an effort to ‘get back to its roots’, the originating players have decided to make a few significant changes for this season.

Previously run as a weekly open $100 big skins game with par-3 pin shots, in 2010 the players have decided to change the format to a straight $50 big skins game for amateurs only.

The skins game entry fee reduction reflects the condition of the current economy, in an effort to keep the number of players in the 20-30 range week to week.

Eliminating the pin shot deduction from the total skins pot keeps the available skins amount as high as possible, which has always been the focus of the game.

And for 2010, only amateur players will be allowed to compete in the game, which should help draw additional amateurs. Since the best-of-class Chippewa 2-Man Scratch League that follows this 11:30 a.m. skins game is run for amateurs only, the lead-up now matches perfectly with the focus of the league.

While some professional players have been disappointed with the decision, the start-up of the new Medalist Tour eases the loss of this playing option for the pros.

The reduction of the entry amount to $50 for the skins game and the fact that amateurs will compete only against other amateurs should allow the game to maintain its past number of players, and perhaps even grow further.

The Chippewa Monday Skins Game started the 2010 season as of April 12th and will run for the remainder of the year beginning each Monday at 11:30 a.m. (save for a couple of times per year for big outings at the course). New amateur players are always welcome to join this scratch game when they can, as no pre-registration for the skins game is required; simply show up around 11 a.m. and groups are set on the first tee.

The cost for green fees with cart will remain at just $25 for the 18 holes, making this skins game one of the truly great deals in competitive golf in Northeast Ohio!
