Northern Ohio PGA pro Dennis Miller from Mill Creek Golf Course in Youngstown qualified yesterday for the 112th U.S. Open Championship at The Olympic Club on June 11-17, 2012.
Miller shot an even par score for the 36-hole qualifier with rounds of 71 at Scioto CC and 70 at Ohio State Scarlet Course to get in a four player playoff for three spots. On the 4th playoff hole, Miller’s putt hung on the lip for 5 seconds before dropping in to grab his spot in the U.S. Open! [See the Golf Channel video of the playoff putt here.]
Strongsville’s Jake Scott, a former Cleveland Amateur champion and now Elyria Country Club assistant pro, shot a bogey-free 6-under par score of 65 to pace a group of eight players who earned their way to Sectional Qualifying for the 2012 U.S. Open Championship.
The Country Club in Pepper Pike will play host to a USGA national golf championship this coming summer: the 112th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, on August 6-12, 2012.
