We have passed the half way mark of the 2010 golf season and now we head toward the home stretch.
So I wanted to take this opportunity to give every player a few updates and quick reminders about some of the upcoming dates on the 2010 Greater Cleveland Skins Game calendar:
Dave Sotka and friends got a warm-up on Thursday in preparation for the upcoming Cleveland Amateur at Manakiki, as the Greater Cleveland Skins Game went to challenging Chardon Lakes Golf Course. Sotka found paydirt again on his old home high school course, grabbing one of three skins on the evening.
It was a beautiful night for golf at Fowlers Mill in Chesterland on Thursday, and the three players who came away with a skin that evening enjoyed it even more.
First up, Rob Skebe captured his first skin of the year with a birdie on the 375-yard par-4 second hole.
Steve Blackburn Jr., the reigning Greater Cleveland Skins Game Champion, made a bold move this week at Quail Hollow Country Club: he made the only skin of the night.
Blackburn Jr. made a “statement eagle” on the 490-yard par-5 8th hole on the Weiskopf Course, hitting driver then 7-iron to two feet.
The Greater Cleveland Skins game traveled to Aurora Country Club for the first time ever this week, and the golf course gave up six skins on the evening — and one of those skins was won with a par!
Thursday’s round also finalized the five players who gained an exemption into the Cleveland Amateur Championship for 2010.
Wicked Woods has been nothing but kind to Mark Julius this year, as he continued his hot streak by capturing a skin and a pin shot there Thursday night.
Julius birdied the par-5 12th hole that held up for a skin worth $130.33, and he grabbed the pin shot at the uphill 150-yard par-3 14th hole worth $59.50. The double-dip was Julius’ second big night of the year at Wicked Woods, as he climbs into second place on the season-long leaderboard, less than $185 away from the lead still held by Eddie Neer.
