Twenty four player sloshed their way around a soaked Punderson State Park Golf Course in Newbury on Thursday under bright blue skies in the Greater Cleveland Skins Game.
Everyone went home wet and muddy, but four players went home wet, muddy and happy.
Twenty three players braved the challenging conditions at Aurora Country Club on Thursday evening for Week 2 of the Greater Cleveland Skins Game. A fierce wind storm made its way through Northeast Ohio throughout the day, adding to the difficulty of the soggy course.
And temperatures dropped as the evening went on, too.
But it was one short putt that dropped — and one that didn’t — that was the real story.
The Greater Cleveland Skins Game kicked off its 21st season Thursday night at Fowlers Mill Golf Course, under cold and damp conditions.
Twenty-seven players were on hand to see defending champion Eddie Neer of Lyndhurst hit the first tee shot of the year on Fowlers’ 10th hole, all hoping to take the Thompson Cup from him.
But by the evening’s end, it was a couple players from the west side of town who made the most of their trip to Fowlers Mill.
The 2011 edition of the Greater Cleveland Skins Game kicks off this Thursday at Fowlers Mill Golf Course in Chesterland. Opening day for 21st season of the Greater Cleveland Skins Game will be Thursday, April 21 at Fowlers Mill Golf Club! Defending champion Eddie Neer (left) will lead off the season by hitting the first tee ball at 4:30 p.m.
The Greater Cleveland Skins Game will visit 12 different east-side area golf courses this year. New for 2011: Erie Shores, Hawthorne Valley, Sugar Bush and Punderson State Park golf courses.
