The Munson Township trustees had their first public meeting last night about the proposed purchase and closing of Fowlers Mill Golf Course for water restoration and the creation of a rural park. A whopping crowd of over 200 people showed up at the meeting to voice their disgust over this idea, and the Munson Township trustees did their best to placate the crowd by downplaying and/or deferring their decision as final. But they didn’t squash the idea, either.

Guys on the east side looking for a competitive event this weekend have a $100 Pins & Skins event option on Sunday. Jarrod Dixon will run the game as a 1:30 shotgun start August 15th at the Harbor Golf Club (formerly the Ashtabula Country Club, a pretty good golf course).

The Plain Dealer published a story in its Metro section today by Pat Galbincea about the potential sale of Fowlers Mill Golf Course to the Munson Township trustees, who would use $5 million in grant money from the Ohio EPA to close the course and turn it into a park in the name of water cleanup. With all due respect to my friend Pat, this story whitewashes the real issues behind the proposal and incorrectly states several facts.

When Joey Hurtuk, Phil Bojc, Les Brock and Josh Mayle teed it up last Wednesday in the Kent State Blue & Gold Alumni Golf Outing at the KSU Golf Course, it seemed like just another day of scramble golf for these four friends.
