9-year old Nolan Haynes of Barberton will compete at Augusta National Golf Club in the inaugural Drive, Chip & Putt Championship on Sunday, April 6th.
Haynes won the Boys Age 7-9 category at the Illinois regional to earn his way to Augusta with a score of 124. He was first in driving and chipping and third in putting, resulting in four medals at the qualifier.
Haynes lives near Kent State, which has given him the opportunity to get putting lessons and tips from KSU alum Ben Curtis, the winner of the 2003 British Open. In 2009, Haynes appeared on NBC’s Today Show after scoring a hole-in-one on an 80-yard, par-3.
Haynes’ personal golf website is here.
The event is sponsored by the USGA, the PGA of America and Augusta National Golf Club. A list of all the junior players who qualified is here.
The championship will be shown on the Golf Channel starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 6th.
