Cleveland’s Andrew Bailey has won his first two matches at the 2021 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Sankaty Head Golf Club near Nantucket, MA, advancing to the Round of 16.
Bailey shot 2-under par in qualifying to finish T14 and earn the 15th seed.
In the Round of 64 over the course of Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, he beat the 50th-seeded Taylor Klopp of Vancouver, Washington by a tally of 3&1.
Then in the afternoon Round of 32, he blitzed the 18th-seeded John Hayes of Portland, Maine with a crushing 6&4 win, allowing Hayes victory on only one hole in the match.
Tomorrow morning at 8:10 a.m., Bailey will square off against the second-seeded Garrett Rank of Canada, the NHL referee and 2019 Western Amateur champ who is a 3-time winner of the Canadian Mid-Am. Rank was runner-up in the 2012 U.S. Mid-Am as well.

Akron’s Ryan Gutowski qualified for match play after shooting 1-under par in stroke play. but fell in the Round of 64 to Miguel Ordonez of Panama by 4&3.
Cleveland’s Jeffery Blechschmidt missed the cut for match play after shooting rounds of 74 and 75.
