Cleveland’s Andrew Bailey finished T4 and Akron’s Ryan Gutowski T9 in stroke play qualifying at 2022 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Erin Hills and Blue Mound Country Clubs in Erin, Wisconsin, as both players easily made the the weather-delayed Round of 64 matches.
Gutowski finished with scores of 69 – 70 = 139 in qualifying and began his Round of 64 match against 53-seed Harry Bolton of Australia very late in the afternoon on Tuesday. At the suspension of play due to darkness, he is 3-up through six holes after making birdies at holes 5 and 6.
Bailey shot 70 – 66 = 136 in qualifying and because of his high finish, had to wait for the completion of a 17-for-12 spots playoff for his opponent to be determined. Bailey will begin his Round of 64 match against 61-seeded John Quigley of Sterling Heights, MI at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday morning.
