Five members of the Northern Ohio Section of the Professional Golfers Association of America will compete in the Senior PGA Professional Championship at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida on Thursday through Sunday, October 26-29.
The five qualified for the 72-hole event during the NOPGA’s Senior Professional Championship at Shawnee Country Club in Lima in early August.
Belmont Country Club assistant professional Mike Stone won the local event, followed by Portage Country Club golf instructor Steve Parker, PGA Life Member Gary Trivisonno and PGA Life Member Tom Atchison.
The NOPGA added a fifth player when 1899 Indoor Golf-Cleveland East golf instructor Gary Rusnak gained entry through the national alternate’s list. Rusnak finished as first alternate during the August event.
Stone won with rounds of 71-68-139 (5-under par), while Parker (72-70-142) and Trivisonno (73-69) tied for second and Atchison (75-72-147) finished fourth.
The 2023 Senior PGA Professional Championship will be played on the Wanamaker and Ryder courses at the PGA Golf Club. Matt Schalk, the general manager of the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Co., is the reigning champion. He shot rounds of 69-68-66-75—278 when the event was played at the Twin Warriors and Santa Ana Golf Clubs in Santa Ana, Pueblo, New Mexico, and won $26,000.
