Given Saturday’s tasty weather forecast of sunny and 66, The Quarry Spring 2-M Scramble in Canton has filled its 40 team field.
The only openings that remain are for teams who are willing to walk, since the course only has 80 carts and they must be used by solo riders due to the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.
Teams not yet registered to play with carts may add their names to the waiting list, but those teams will only get into the field pending an advance cancellation and notification (no alternates permitted on the property).
The Quarry 2-M Scramble is the first event of the 2020 golf season, and the first local tournament ever conducted under social distancing requirements. Thus, it is critical that every player follow all of the guidelines laid out by the state and county health departments, and follow all of the directions given by the staff while at the golf course.
Without question, this is a test. It is not hyperbole: the future of tournament golf for the remainder of this shutdown order hangs in the balance.
The following are important considerations for all who play this Saturday, given the COVID-19 social distancing requirements:
– the event has been changed from a shotgun start to tee times beginning at 9 a.m.;
– tee times are set 12 minutes apart to make sure only one group is on the tee box at a time and the field is adequately spaced;
– the range at The Quarry has been closed and the putting green will be limited only to the foursome waiting on-deck for the first tee;
– do not arrive more than 30 minutes before your tee time, as you will not receive a cart nor be able to pay your entry fees before then;
– the only food and beverage service available will be to-go from the halfway house;
– you MUST maintain pace with the group in front of you, so to ensure pace of play, bogey is the maximum score a team may take on any hole, and a team MUST pick up once bogey is reached;
– players must leave the scoring area immediately after posting their group’s scores;
– all ties split, so players should leave the golf course property immediately after completing their round;
– final results will be posted online that evening, with prize payouts sent online or by mail early next week.
“With all of the social distancing and sanitizing steps we’ve put into place, running a tournament this Saturday is a better option than regular play,” said Troy Schonover, GM at The Quarry. “Tee times are scheduled in advance and everyone playing knows exactly what is required. Having all of this communicated in advance actually makes my job easier. For us, this is regular golf; the ‘tournament’ part is all online.”
