The 2020 NOGA golf season continues! Sure, the weather is getting sketchy and will only grow more wintery. But that doesn’t mean tournament golf is finished.
The Northern Ohio Golf Association and 1899 Indoor Golf, a modern indoor golf lounge with locations in Twinsburg and Canton, are joining forces to launch the NOGA Winter Tournament Series at 1899 from November 2020 through April 2021.
1899 Indoor Golf features virtual courses powered by Trackman, the most sophisticated golf performance tracking and enhancing software in the industry. Trackman offers digital versions of the top courses in the world, like the Old Course at St. Andrews and Muirfield Village.
It is on these virtual golf courses that NOGA members will compete each month in a Four-Ball tournament (i.e. two-person better ball teams) for prizes distributed as Visa/Amex gift cards!
Players register their team and pay event an entry fee of $190 per team through the NOGA tournament website. That entry fee covers both the “greens fees” at 1899 and the tournament prizes. NOGA will notify 1899 of each registration, and 1899 will email a Trackman event invite to the participants to create a Trackman profile and book a day/time to play.
Each month’s tournament round must be played before the last day of that month, and a team can compete only once per monthly event. Entries for that month close seven days before the end of the month. A reservation for simulator time of at least one 1-hour per player is recommended, and that reservation can be made at either the Canton or Twinsburg location.

A different Top-100 virtual golf course will be selected for play each month, and the conditions set for play (wind, tees, etc.) will always be the same for each competing two-player team. A two-player team can play the course in the tournament as a twosome, or a team can make arrangements with another team from any flight then book a foursome at the 1899 location they wish to play.
The course for the November tournament is Bellerive Country Club, the host of the 1965 U.S. Open and the 1992 and 2018 PGA Championships.
The December tournament course will be Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas, site of the PGA Tour’s HERO World Challenge.
Final scores from each team will be posted only after that month’s tournament is complete; holding the results makes the competition fair no matter when the round is played during the month. About $80 of each player’s entry fee will go into the prize pot by flight, and prizes will be paid out in the same framework as NOGA pays out its Flighted Series events during the summer months.
Players can compete in just one event, some of the events, or in all six in the Winter Series. The first five monthly events, from November through March, will be 18 hole Four-Ball competitions. The April finale will be a 36-hole tournament with a $300 per team entry fee and a larger prize payout.
The November Four-Ball tournament is on-going right now, using multiple Flights. Entry deadline is November 24th for the November event, and the tournament round must be completed by November 30th.
Then starting in December, there will be just two registration options for the rest of the Series: a Scratch Four-Ball event using the players’ gross scores (with Seniors age 55+ moving up a tee box); or a Net Four-Ball event using GHIN handicaps. Registration for the December tournament opens Nov 24th and closes Dec 24th, with play to be completed on December 31st.
