Some of the best junior players in the region will compete on behalf of their respective tours this Sunday in the 20th edition of the Joe Haase Cup at Firestone Country Club’s North Course.
The Haase Cup is a competition among Northern Ohio’s junior golf tours: the Northern Ohio PGA Junior Tour, the North Coast Junior Tour, the Lake Erie Junior Golf Association, and the Southwest Junior Golf Tour.
On Sunday, 72 juniors will play 18-hole matches against an opponent from another team. A total of 36 matches will be played; winners earn 2 points, squared matches earn 1 point. The team with the highest point total wins.

Last year, the Northern Ohio PGA Junior Tour won the Cup for the fifth consecutive year by winning 16 of 18 matches. The North Coast Junior Tour won 10 of 18 of their matches and kept it close for most of the day, but the NOPGA pulled away in the later matches.
Started by Southwest Junior Tour Director Dave Moskal in 1999 as the Junior Tour Challenge, the event was renamed in 2002 for Joe Haase, the PGA professional at Shaker Heights CC, a past President of the Northern Ohio PGA, and a big supporter of junior golf.
