Yes, This Bridgestone is Smaller

Bridgestone Senior Players Championship logoWithout question, the 2019 Bridgestone Senior Players Championship is a much smaller event than was the 2018 WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

But how much smaller?

Thursday morning before the noon downpour hit Akron, I went out to Firestone to take some photos. My focus was on how the 2019 event “looked” compared to its 2018 counterpart, which I photographed during the Wednesday practice round last year.

The differences are readily apparent.

So Why Go?

The 2019 Bridgestone Senior Players Championship has some of its own merits and benefits.

The tickets are far less expensive and very easy to get.

The event will attract primarily true golf fans, giving patrons an easier chance to get up-close to the action.

There are scores of great players and World Golf Hall of Fame stars playing this week who are very much worth watching:

Fred Couples

Steve Stricker

Scott McCarron

Plus food, fun and musical entertainment options will be available after the last putt drops on Friday and Saturday evenings in the brand-new Water Tower Club.

If the WGC Bridgestone Invitational wasn’t so fresh off its ending, it’s likely that people in Northeast Ohio might better appreciate what the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship is, or could be, for the region.

Yes, the multiple pro-am events that Tournament Director Don Padgett III and his staff ran early in the week were a smash success, big sellouts, huge financial wins. That alone could keep the PGA TOUR and Bridgestone corporate happy for quite awhile.

But it’s important that Northeast Ohio support pro golf here. Not every city has a big-time tournament like this. Proceeds benefit area charities. So come on out and enjoy…
