2016 DAP Championship Notebook: Friday Round 2

DAP ChampionshipThe pelting downpour at Canterbury Golf Club late Thursday afternoon created a lengthy delay, pushing all of the second round DAP Championship starting times back a couple of hours on Friday. Many players had to finish up round one on Friday morning before the second round could begin. So Friday’s second round was not completed as darkness fell, which means no cut until Saturday. That could cause some challenges given the rainy weather forecast…

Mackenzie Hughes2012 Kent State graduate Mackenzie Hughes (left) will make the cut for certain after adding a 2-under par 68 Friday to his first round 69. Hughes sits at T17 after second round play was suspended for darkness.

Read about Hughes and his former Golden Flashes coach, Herb Page, in Tim Roger‘s Round 2 story on Ohio.com here.

Mike Peticca of PGA Tour Media also did a nice story on Mackenzie’s Northeast Ohio ties here.

Nick Lindheim and Derek Duda at 2016 DAP Championship

Local caddie superstar Derek Duda (above right) will be back on the bag at Canterbury on Saturday after his man Nicholas Lindheim (left) posted a second consecutive 69. Lindheim sits at T29 and will be looking for a breakout round on Saturday, as he’s been close to really ripping one off for two days.

(Nick is a funny guy; no, he doesn’t always look that way…)

Ryan ArmourSilver Lake native Ryan Armour is in a more precarious spot after completing his second round.

Thursday morning, Ryan shot 2-over par 72. On Friday afternoon, he came back with a 1-under par 69. But he had it to 2-under par late on Friday, then a bogey on the treacherous 220-yard par-3 17th pushed him back over 1-over par for the tournament.

Currently the cut of 65 players and ties sits at even par, and Ryan is T70 at +1. But there are still 10 players yet to finish sitting between even par to 2-under. So the cutline could still move…

Brian Krusoe

2004 Cleveland Amateur Champ Brian Krusoe is back in town, helping with tournament operations for the DAP Championship.

Brian works for Global Golf Management and is primarily the Tournament Director for the Web.com Tour’s Rex Hospital Open, living in Raleigh, North Carolina. But he’s here in Cleveland this week pitching in a hand…

Two things you’ll only see at a professional golf tournament in Greater Cleveland:

Swenson's Food Truck at Canterbury

…a Swenson’s Hamburger and Shakes Truck,

Lebron shooting jumpers at Canterbury

…and LeBron James shooting jumpers next to the putting green. (Okay, it’s a life-size cutout. So come take some selfies of you blocking his shot because really, it’s the only way it’s ever gonna happen.)

Northeast Ohio Golf banner

Our brand new Northeast Ohio Golf banner is now set up inside the main spectator gate at Canterbury, right under the giant crane that hoists the eagle-eye TV camera behind the 4th tee.

Yes, the Saturday forecast is for scattered showers all day with the highest chance for rain right around noon. But we’ll be there anyway, handing out logo stickers and hoping that the rain skirts right around Beachwood. Grab an umbrella and rain hat, and we’ll see you out there…
