The big news first: no team won a skin in Week 17’s scramble format. Carry over!
But let’s not bury the headline. The two guys at the top of the 2016 Chippewa Scratch League Leaderboard, Shayne Bishop and Ken Koprivec, started Monday’s scramble on the front nine by going 5-under par in the first four holes: birdie, birdie, eagle, birdie. It was spectacular golf.
But the well ran dry and they made par on the final five holes. Their start was good enough to earn a victory on the evening, though, and add to their season money-leading totals. Both Bishop and Koprivec are now at four-figures in earnings.
Ty Kovach and Allen Freeman played in the group with the leaders. They made eagle on the third hole and birdied the fourth and fifth, but they also couldn’t make another birdie coming home. They did nab second place to stay within striking distance heading into next week’s season finale.
Because no team won a skin — carry over! — and because the final week of the 2016 season will be played under the 3/3/3 format next Monday ($10 pots for each of three holes of scramble, better ball and shamble plus the 9-hole overall total and big skins with the carry over), a big ol’ pot will be in play for the final week of the 2016 Chippewa Scratch League season.
That means the top players on the money list still have a mathematical chance to sweep the pot, overtake the leader, and win the 2017 Chippewa membership that goes to the Leaderboard champion. But clearly it’s going to take some kind of crazy-good play to catch Bishop and Koprivec…
