The weather for the first Monday of the 2016 Chippewa Scratch League season was damp, gray and cold. But drawing 38 players heated up the competition nicely, thank you very much.
Five two-player teams tied at the top at 4-under par 31 in the scramble format on the front side.
But the big winners on the night reached their 4-under par total in a different way. Dan Marr and Bobby Spino nabbed an eagle chip-in by Spino on the par-five third hole, which earned them the entire skins pot.
The pair jump into the top slot on the 2016 Leaderboard shown below, which has gained a newfound significance as of last evening.
League Director Kevin Larizza made two surprise announcements on Monday that should add significantly to player interest for the rest of the season.
The first announcement was that a new series of pin shot prizes will be available to win on select weeks throughout the season. These prizes will be unique things like sporting event tickets, restaurant gift cards, etc. — cool stuff that players will actually want.
The second announcement was the biggie. For 2016, the top points earner on the Chippewa Scratch League Leaderboard will win a 2017 Chippewa Golf + Cart Membership — a $1,400 value! Better yet, if the Leader is actually a partner team who is tied at the top, BOTH players will earn membership! A fantastic incentive and prize.
