An hour-long rain delay stopped play, but didn’t really affect the final results.
A pretty good story came out of it, though.
Eric Vought and Ken Koprivec won the scramble format event on the front nine at Chippewa with a six-under par score of 29. That score was good enough to beat the teams of Sam Spino and Dave Oates (who earned second place with a scorecard playoff) and Dr. Jeff Mallette and Mike Kracker by one shot.
But the drama of the evening was the solo skin won by Mike Armour and fill-in partner Ed Marsinek. They made eagle 3 on the par-5 third hole before the huge thunderstorms hit. They came into the clubhouse, looked at the score sheet and knew they had a skin, but it was questionable whether or not they could finish their round to collect it!
When the weather finally broke, there had been enough rain that carts were done for the evening. So knowing they had cash-in-hand, they lightened their bags and walked their final few holes to post their score and collect the only skin of the evening, worth $340!
