Even with a bogey on the short par-4 seventh, they played good enough to win.
The team of Jim Krivanek and Mike Simpson won the better ball event of Week 5 of the Chippewa Scratch League with a score of 4-under par 31. They made five birdies — including a birdie at the last — offset by a lone bogey on what is usually a birdie hole.
That gave Jim and Mike a one shot win over three teams at 32: Danny Marr and fill-in partner Aaron Crewse (who also made a bogey in their round), Mark Thomas and Quinn Parker, and Sam Spino Jr. and Dave Oates. The Marr/Crewse team earned the second place gift certificates in a scorecard playoff.
But the big winners on the night were Chris Helaney and Dennis Berkheimer. Berkheimer rolled in a 28-foot birdie putt on the 195-yard par-3 second hole that held up for the only skin of the evening, earning the pair the carry-over skins pot of $820! Their split of that money pushes them to the top of the 2014 Chippewa Scratch League Standings.
