It was a tie at the top in Week 4 of Monday’s Chippewa Scratch League, and the first carry-over skin of the year is in play for next week.
On a windy evening with some tough hole locations, 2013 Chippewa Scratch League Champion Sam Spino Jr. and Dave Oates posted a solid 4-under par in the scramble format on the back nine to be leaders in the clubhouse.
But Allen Freeman chipped in on 14 and made a curling 25-footer on 16, then stood back and watched as partner Ty Kovach made birdies on his own ball at 17 and 18 to tie the 4-under par score. Freeman and Kovach could have made it an outright win, but they turned birdie into bogey on 15 by missing a wiggling downhill 8-footer and the par come-back from 6 feet. (Gack!)
No outright skins were won on the evening, so that money will be added to the skins pot total for next week’s front nine event.
