Russ Rybka and Allen Freeman took a temporary pairing and turned it into a Week 1 victory.
Ty Kovach normally partners with Freeman, but Kovach had to officiate his final Monday lacrosse game of the year. That left Rybka and Freeman to ham-and-egg their way to a 5-under par scramble score on the front nine that included a 3-putt bogey at the second.
The total was good for a one stroke win over defending league champion Sam Spino and partner Tim Davis, and Jim Grasso and his newly-recruited partner, Brian Vincelette.
Bernie Chupek gave Dave Petraka a nice little gift in Week 1, as Bernie hit the drive, the hybrid and made the 30-foot putt for eagle on the par-5 third hole. Dave drove the cart.
Rick Bryson and Ryan Maxwell took the other half of the skins pot with their birdie on the fourth hole to get on the season-long leaderboard, which will be coming soon.
With a total of 18 teams competing in the league on a chilly evening, the Monday Night Scratch League had a successful start to the 2014 season. With some warmer weather coming, the number of teams should grow. Teams have until May 26th to register for the season, so start recruiting and get out there…
