Eric Frishette tamed a windy Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown on Friday, firing a 4-under par 67 to win The Medalist Tour’s Kickoff Classic and start the season with back-to-back wins.
Frishette edged out former Cleveland State star Jake Scott by a single shot. The victory was worth $1,750 for Frishette, pushing his season’s earnings to $2,750.
Scott won $800 for his runner-up finish. Vaughn Snyder earned $600 with his 69 and third-place finish. Dan Rush shot 70 and won $500, while Bob Sowards and Joe Frustaci each matched par 71 and earned $350.
Walt Robertson and Gary Trivisonno were low among the Senior Professionals and won $200 each.
Among the amateurs, Mark Thomas defeated Paul Kish in a playoff to win the Championship Flight. Both golfers finished regulation play at one-over par 72. Each made bogey on the first playoff hole before Thomas sank a 20-foot putt to win on the second hole. Thomas won a $400 in MasterCard gift cards, while Kish earned $300 for their efforts.
Tony Boyd netted a one-over par 72 to win the Senior Division and a $300 gift card. Jim DeOrio finished second and earned $200.
Mark Bruhn shot a net 74 to edge Warren Lyman by one shot to win the First Flight and a $200 gift card.
SKINS: $1,000 in the skin pot. Winners of $250 each were Bob Sowards, Allen Freeman, Ryan Stefanski and Paul Kish.
The Closest-to-Pin prizes went to Chip Knuckley, Tony Boyd, Jim O’Neill and Chris Okeson. Each won $60.
