Dan Rush shot 5-under par 66 to win the Professional Division of The Medalist Tour’s Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Norwalk on Thursday, taking the victory by three shots over Eric Frishette, Steve Lee and Louis Lapos.
The former Ohio State golfer made nine birdies over the par-71 layout in beautiful conditions; the temperature stayed in the 80s and the greens were softened by early morning showers, making scoring conditions ideal.
Rush earned $800 with the win, while Frishette, Lee and Lapos each won $300.
The second-best scoring round of the day was recorded by Amateur Division winner Brian Smith of Amherst. Smith started out fast, shooting a 31 on the front nine, and finished at 4-under par 67 to win by seven shots over runner-up Josh DeWees. Dave Snell, Glyn Price and Chris Plute were all three shots behind DeWees in a tie for third. Smith earned $200 and DeWees $100.
There were three skins, each worth $125. They went to Rush, DeWees and Walt Robertson. Joe Nowak and Bob Karshner each won a pin shot worth $35.
