Ian Weinberg, a Cleveland Heights native, and Conner Pratt, from Hoover, Alabama, posted the day’s low round at Avon Oaks Country Club in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier. The pairing cleared the rest of the field by two strokes, posting an 11-under 61. Weinburg and Pratt combined for nine birdies and an eagle on their round. The duo avoided any bogeys on their card, which allowed them to comfortably avoid any playoff scenario.
The other Qualifying spot would come down to a playoff, after Cleveland State Viking teammates Brody Simms / Andrew Kaye tied for second place at 9-under par with Lucas Murray / Ryan Gutowski. Simms, a Dayton native, and Kaye, from Avon Lake, would claim the second Qualifying spot on the first playoff hole after Murray/Gutowski conceded the hole. The nine birdies that Simms and Kaye would post proved to be enough to earn them a spot at Plainfield Country Club next May. Murray and Gutowski may still be able to have a chance to compete in New Jersey, as they claimed the 1st Alternate position.
